PAPER RECYCLING

We had a workshop about paper recycling. One group did a TV program about recycling, another did a survey of the different types of paper, another group recycled paper, another made a video showing how to do it and and it was a great experience because most of us had never seen it before, so we learnt a lot of things.

Agustín, Raúl and Joel

This is how to recycle paper:

Do you recycle? here is an interview for the TV program:

And this is the survey of the different types of paper:

HOW IS PAPER PRODUCED?
In this activity we explain how to produce paper:
WHERE DOES PAPER COME FROM?
Paper comes from cellulosic fibers of the trees. Different types of paper present different characteristics.
We can classify paper into three different columns:
  • - Information- media (newspapers, magazines, books, office, photocopying,     advertising sheets, etc.).
  • - Domestic (tissue paper rolls for kitchen, coffee filters, tissues, etc.).
  • - Packing (bags, Paper packing, etc.).
We are going to give you some information guidance:

Trees that we need for 1m3 of wood
M3 of wood that all trees have
Small wood
(trees of 5 or 20 cm of diameter with an average of 17,5 cm)

41.00

0,0244
Big wood
(trees of 20 or 40 diameter with an average of 30 cm)

5,38

0,1860
To find out how many sheets of paper are in a ton of paper you can use the following table:
DUMP WOOD
m3
DRY WOOD
Tm
Chemical pulp
Tm
PAPER
Tm
SHEETS DINA4
4
2

200000
To produce a ton of paper we need:

Premium paper
Ordinary quality paper
Recycled paper

Trees

5,3 Has
3,8 Has
We don't need any trees
Water

440 m3
280 m3
1,8 m3
Energy

7.600 kwh
4750 kwh.
2750 kwh.
So we have to use recycled paper because:
·         It doesn't need any tree.
·         It uses less water in its production.
·         It needs less energy to be produced.
