POLUTION OF COMPUTERS

 

The students of “Ausias  Verd” have done a study on the pollution produced by computers, we have realized that the Toshiba, the computers that have been subsidized by "La Generalitat" are some of the most pollutants, according to data from Greenpeace.

The students have written a letter to 'Ensenyement' and another to the ' Medi Ambient i Sostenibilitat ' because we would like them to be more sensible on this topic, for a more sustainable future.

Som alumnes de 2n d'ESO de l'Institut Ausiàs March de Barcelona. Formem part d'un projecte anomenat Ausiàs Verd perquè, com a vostè, ens preocupa el Medi Ambient i analitzem temes com la contaminació, el reciclatge, l'estalvi d'energia, etc. Us escrivim per informar-vos d'una situació que es dóna en el nostre Institut i en molts d'altres.

Som conscients que el nostre país està en crisi econòmica, i que hi ha hagut moltes retallades obligades, però aquesta carta no és per a què ens subvencionin amb més diners, sinó per a què ens aturem a pensar per un moment què és el millor per a la naturalesa.

Estem també en el projecte 1x1, i com bé sabeu, tots tenim un ordinador portàtil, facilitat per la pròpia Generalitat de Catalunya. Últimament hem fet un estudi sobre la contaminació que es produeix en la fabricació dels ordinadors, els portàtils, els netbooks, les tablets... en definitiva, la tecnologia que utilitzem avui dia. Ens hem adonat que els Toshiba, els portàtils que ens heu subvencionat, són uns dels més contaminants, segons dades del Greenpeace, que apareixen a la següent pàgina web:

Ens sembla, amb tot el respecte, que és un contrasentit que el Govern de la Generalitat de Catalunya, que és lider en la lluita per tal de preservar el nostre Medi Ambient, amb la despesa econòmica tan important que això representa, contribueixi a fer-lo malbé.

Ens ha animat a adreçar-vos aquesta reflexió la vostra preocupació per la sostenibilitat global del planeta i pel vostre desig de preservar, dins dels mitjans econòmics del vostre Departament, la qualitat de vida dels ciutadans.

Ens agradaria que reflexionéssiu sobre aquest tema, per un futur més sostenible, tot considerant el que ja hem expressat.

THE THREE Rs & MOBILE RECYCLING TRUCK

The rule of the three Rs, also known as 3R, is a proposal about the consumption patterns popularized by the environmental organization Greenpeace, which aims to develope responsible habits and general responsible consumption.

Reuse

To reuse is to use the objects more than once. Many items found around the home can be used for different purposes. So before you throw those items away, think about how they can be reused. Below are some suggestions of how to reuse those everyday bits and pieces.

Reusable items:

 

carrier bags and twist ties.

 Jars and pots.

 Old clothes.

 Used wood.

 Scrap paper. 

Reduce:  

 It’s very important to reduce pollution and contamination, because If we stay on this way, we’re going to destroy our world.

 ·         Use cloth bags or boxes for lunches instead of paper bags
 ·         Buy products that come without boxes or excess packaging
 ·         Use linen towel dispensers or hand dryers instead of paper
 ·         Take advantage of libraries, to read books

Recycle:

Recycling is processing used materials (waste) into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials, reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, reduce energy usage, reduce air pollution (from incineration) and water pollution (from land filling) by reducing the need for "conventional" waste disposal, and lower greenhouse gas emissions as compared to virgin production. People should use the recycling containers to recycle materials such as plastic bags, tins and cans, bottles, paper and glass.

 

THE  MOBILE RECYCLING TRUCK

 

On Friday the Mobile Recycling Truck "Punt Verd Mòbil Escolar" visited our school.

We were responsible for carrying all our waste to the PVME and we also asked them a few questions about recycling.
